Ras Al Khaimah Sets Its Sights on Astronaut Training

Ras Al Khaimah wants to be a UAE hub for astronaut training and aerospace research. What is planned, who is behind it and why the desert suits it.

Ras Al Khaimah Sets Its Sights on Astronaut Training

Ras Al Khaimah is preparing to enter a new area of experiential tourism through plans for a commercial astronaut training programme combining aviation, human performance and space-readiness experiences.

The initiative follows a memorandum of understanding between Ras Al Khaimah-based Action Flight Aviation and commercial space platform BLINC Space. Action Flight will operate the airborne training activities under its UAE aviation approvals, while BLINC Space will develop the programme, training curriculum and international partnerships.

The first experiences are expected to be introduced during the second half of 2026. Initial activities could include high-G-force training, aerobatic flights and introductory astronaut-readiness exercises designed to give participants an understanding of the physical and mental demands associated with space travel. More advanced concepts, including multi-day programmes, free-fall training and zero-gravity parabolic flights, are being considered for later phases.

The programme is not intended to launch spacecraft from Ras Al Khaimah. Instead, it aims to position the emirate as a regional destination for commercial astronaut preparation and aviation-led adventure tourism.

For Ras Al Khaimah, the project represents an unexpected extension of its established adventure offering. Already known for mountain, desert and aerial experiences, the emirate could now attract a new audience of aviation enthusiasts, aspiring commercial astronauts and travellers seeking highly specialised experiences.

As private space travel develops globally, astronaut preparation may become a growing tourism category of its own. Ras Al Khaimah’s early move into the sector could help establish the emirate as one of the region’s most innovative destinations for future-focused adventure.
