When cultured pearls transformed the industry and the region entered a new phase of development, residents gradually moved to newer communities beginning in 1969. Unlike many historic settlements that disappeared under redevelopment, Al Jazeera Al Hamra remained largely untouched, preserving an extraordinary record of traditional Emirati life.
